Privacy notice

This notice explains what ViteChess stores when you create an account or register for a tournament, why, who can see it and how long we keep it.

Last updated October 12, 2026.

What we store

  • Your account: your email address, the name your sign-in provider shares, and when you created the account and last signed in.
  • Your sign-in: Firebase Authentication, a Google service, keeps your password or the link to your Google account for us. We never see your password.
  • Your player profile, if you link one: which player in the public archive is you, and whether a referee has confirmed it.
  • Your date of birth, if you give it.
  • Tournament registrations: name, FIDE ID, national ID, date of birth and email address.
  • Cookies: one keeps you signed in, until 5 days after your last visit; others remember your language, your theme and the player you follow.

Why

To sign you in, to know which player you are when you register, and to let referees run their tournaments: age categories need the date of birth, and the email address lets them contact you about the event.

Who sees it

  • Public pages show what the chess archive already shows: name, title, federation, club, ratings and results. Never your email address or date of birth.
  • The referees of a tournament you register for see your registration, including your email address and date of birth.
  • The admins of this site can see account data.
  • We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else.

How long we keep it

  • Account data: until you delete your account.
  • Email address and date of birth on a registration: 12 months after the tournament ends.
  • Games and results stay in the public archive, as they do on chess-results.com and in the FIDE rating lists.
  • Referees and admins: the change logs keep the email address of whoever made a change, until that account is deleted.
  • Before an admin repairs duplicate player records, the site copies its whole database, account data included. Each copy is deleted after 30 days, or sooner when three newer ones replace it, so data you delete can stay in a copy until then.

Your choices

  • See and change your player profile and date of birth in Settings, under Profile.
  • Delete your account in Settings, under Account, at any time. That removes your email address and date of birth from our database, deletes your sign-in at Firebase and ends your sessions on every device. A player profile you created yourself is deleted too, unless it already appears in a tournament.
  • For anything else, ask an admin of this site or the referee of your tournament.

Children

Many players are children. In Portugal a child under 13 needs a parent or guardian to create the account and consent for them.
